Summer is just around the corner, days when temperatures rise sharply. Pay close attention to your four-legged friend, as dogs lose heat differently than humans. After all, we all don't want your dog to succumb to the heat. That is why we would like to give you some tips in this blog to get through the summer well!
When temperatures rise, the chance of your dog overheating also increases, resulting in extra care and unforeseen costs. We are happy to help you with the right tips and products to get through the summer without any worries!
Avoid overheating your dog
It takes less than six minutes for your four-legged friend to suffer heat stroke and die in a hot car. Dogs pant to cool themselves and regulate their internal body temperature. Because the inside temperature of the car can double in just ten minutes, a dog can succumb to the heat before its owner returns to the car. Read more about this in our blog.
It is therefore extremely important to pay close attention to the temperature and well-being of your dog. Are you traveling by car? Make sure you have a good seat belt , also take enough water and snacks with you, for example through foldable food and drink bowls or a smart water bottle , and, if necessary, provide a cooling mat in the car. This way the ride remains pleasant, for you but certainly also for your four-legged friend!
Are you staying at home this summer? Make sure that the blinds or curtains of your home remain (semi) closed on windows and doors that receive full afternoon sun. This prevents your dog from lying down in this place and possibly falling asleep while the temperature quickly reaches its hottest point of the day.
Going out with the dog
If you do decide to go out for a day with the dog, be sure to take care of the points mentioned earlier. Are you planning to go to the sea? Middelkerke recently opened a real dog beach in Belgium . Where normally dogs are only allowed off the leash after a certain time, or even not at all, this beach is a real dog beach! The stretch of beach especially for four-legged friends is less than 3 hours from Rotterdam in the Netherlands and 1.5 hours from Antwerp! Ideal for a trip to the beach next summer.
